BRICS Summit Forum

The BRICS Summit is being held in Rio de Janeiro. Today, I also hosted a forum on civil society cooperation at CUHK, where I had in-depth exchanges with experts from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization, the Pacific Basin Economic Council, Ritsumeikan University, and other institutions, as well as other consular representatives. I look forward to Hong Kong becoming a knowledge hub for global development. The BRICS countries' advocacy of local currency settlement and multilateral digital currencies is a structural response to imbalances in the global financial order. With its mature financial infrastructure and unique cross-cultural strengths, Hong Kong plays a vital role in this wave of innovation. I believe Hong Kong can seize opportunities, actively participate in multilateral economic governance, contribute to the development of emerging economies, and consolidate its position as an international financial center.

The response to the BRICS Forum hosted last week exceeded expectations.HK01With the hashtag#BRICS Summit took place in Rio, we hosted an industry-academia dialogue at CUHK, bringing together leaders from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) 香港總商會, PBEC - Pacific Basin Economic Council , AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre , Ritsumeikan University, and several BRICS+ diplomatic missions. Our discussions focused on Hong Kong’s strategic role in global development. As BRICS nations explore innovations like local currency settlements and multilateral digital currencies, Hong Kong’s robust financial infrastructure and cross-cultural strengths position it as a key contributor to the evolving global financial landscape. Hong Kong can serve as a knowledge hub—bridging emerging economies and global governance. With strong legal foundations and a global outlook, Hong Kong is well-placed to turn dialogue into action. Grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas and build new partnerships.
