The general elections for the Election Committee's sectoral divisions in 2026 will be held on the 22nd of next month, and the nomination period ended yesterday. The returning officers for the relevant sectoral divisions received a total of 1,155 candidate nomination forms and 40 nomination forms from designated organizations.
Of the 36 sectoral groups with elected members, 31 have already exceeded their quotas, and the remaining 5 are also full. In the previous term, 23 sectoral groups did not require voting, and candidates were automatically elected. This term, the number of sectoral groups requiring competition is far greater than the 13 in the previous term.
Pan Xuezhi, research director of the Min Si Policy Research Institute, said that the increased competition in this election reflects that after the improvement of the electoral system, it has entered the "consolidation period" from the "system establishment period". The role of the election commissioners is also more meaningful, including connecting the executive and legislative branches, which can attract more people to run for office.
