Youth’s vision for Hong Kong’s future

Vision is important navigation for any organization. Relevant United Nations documents point out that the government's shaping of vision can enhance the sense of responsibility of decision-makers, and the participation of stakeholders from different backgrounds in vision construction can help bring new knowledge to public governance; it will be beneficial to the sustainable development of society and the government's move towards good governance in the long run.

The vision points to the future and youth participation is essential. In Hong Kong, the successive social incidents and recurring epidemics in recent years have had a huge impact on the governance of the SAR government. The society has also fallen into great difficulties and a gloomy atmosphere; the relationship between young people and the SAR government has experienced unprecedented tension.

In addition, research by the Youth Entrepreneurship Research Center shows that a considerable proportion of young people continue to express distrust of the SAR government; young people have a sense of belonging to Hong Kong, but at the same time, a significant proportion have no hope for Hong Kong's future.

With the implementation of the "National Security Law for the Hong Kong Area" and the implementation of relevant measures on the principle of patriots governing Hong Kong, some social voices believe that Hong Kong has transitioned from chaos to rule. However, there are still many young people who feel quite alienated from society and the government, and the overall society is also under low pressure. If this situation continues or worsens, it will inevitably cause people to worry that it will have a negative impact on the pace and direction of Hong Kong's future development. .

The sixth SAR government has just officially come into operation. The current Chief Executive mentioned in the preface of his election platform that he will be results-oriented and committed to solving problems, strengthening governance efficiency, and improving people's happiness. How the new SAR government can assume the role of a better governor, unite society, lead Hong Kong forward, and how to rekindle the confidence of young people are governance issues that the new government must face squarely.

This study aims to take the above background as an opportunity to grasp the younger generation's vision for Hong Kong from a youth perspective, and from a forward-looking perspective, to promote the SAR government's implementation of good governance and good governance, and to maintain Hong Kong's progress. The motivation for development, expectations can provide important reference.

This study collected information from March to May 2022 through several aspects, including literature reference and online youth opinion survey. A total of 1,054 young people aged 15 to 34, 15 young people, and 4 experts were interviewed. and scholars.
