The Election Commission's sectoral group election nomination process has concluded, and research indicates increased competition, reflecting that the system is entering a consolidation phase.

The general elections for the 2026 Election Committee's sectoral sub-committees will be held on September 22nd, with the nomination period ending yesterday. Returning officers for the relevant sectoral sub-committees received a total of 1,155 candidate nomination forms and 40 nomination forms from designated organizations. Of the 36 sectoral sub-committees with elected members, 31 have exceeded their quotas, and the remaining 5 are also full. In the last election, 23 sectoral sub-committees did not require voting, with candidates automatically elected. This year, the number of sectoral sub-committees requiring competition is far greater than the 13 in the previous election. Pan Xuezhi, Research Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research, said that the significantly increased competition in this election reflects that after the improvement of the electoral system, it has moved from the "system establishment period" to the "consolidation period," and the role of the Election Committee members has become more significant, including connecting the executive and legislative branches, thus attracting more candidates.
