Soft propaganda is better than hard slogans, allowing Hong Kong to tell China's story well

Western mainstream media's singular narrative distorts China's image into a stereotype confined to ideological confrontation, leading to widespread misunderstandings among foreign audiences. Rapidly shifting global geopolitical dynamics exacerbate the difficulties faced by China in exporting and disseminating its culture. According to statistics from the Global Times (Note), negative coverage of China in eight major Western countries outnumbers positive coverage by 2.7 times. This overwhelming negative public opinion, combined with social media algorithms, creates a complex information cocoon that continues to marginalize China's voice abroad.

Some schools have spontaneously implemented ESG education, but implementation is stalled due to difficulties integrating it across disciplines and a lack of resources to compile textbooks.

Poon Hok-chi also participated in the program. He expressed his hope that after receiving training, students would be able to objectively assess ESG performance and enhance their knowledge. He emphasized that ESG and sustainable development concepts not only contribute to a green future but should also be integrated into the curriculum starting in primary and secondary schools. This not only satisfies students' pursuit of knowledge but also extends these concepts to the community, promoting public participation in environmental protection, public welfare, and good governance, ultimately building a sustainable world.

Mainland tourists choose Hong Kong for high-end medical check-ups

Hong Kong's medical standards are among the best in the world. A medical examination center reported that over the past year or so, a large number of mainland patients have come to Hong Kong for high-end medical examinations such as whole-body MRIs and cardiopulmonary CT scans, resulting in a 15% increase in business. Some critically ill patients have even traveled south to seek independent third-party medical advice and chosen to come to Hong Kong for treatment. Industry insiders also pointed out that with the improvement of mainland medical standards, the large number of mainlanders who came to Hong Kong for general medical examinations and vaccinations is now a thing of the past. They believe that Hong Kong's medical examination services should develop in a high-end and specialized direction to fully leverage their strengths. A think tank member pointed out that the Hong Kong government has been actively planning to establish a third medical school in recent years, increasing the number of doctors and medical training. It is expected that once all conditions are ripe, the market will be further expanded, and even medical tourism targeting mainland and Southeast Asian tourists will be developed.

The concept of "keeping the body intact" persists, and the organ donation rate is still not ideal

Currently, nearly 400,000 people have registered for organ donation, a record high, but Hong Kong is still one of the regions with the lowest organ donation rate in the world, falling to a new low of less than 4 people per 1 million people in the past two years. Some doctors suggested that in addition to strengthening education and breaking the traditional idea of "leaving an intact body after death", efforts should be made to find potential donors from hospitals, such as setting up a transplant team composed of doctors to assist. Another doctor reiterated the introduction of the "default consent" mechanism popular in foreign countries, allowing citizens who do not want to donate organs to register voluntarily; the think tank pointed out that Hong Kong people's concepts are still conservative, and it is appropriate to implement it when society is more accepting of organ donation. Last month, Hong Kong received cross-border organ donations from the Mainland for the second time. Some doctors hope that it will be regularized as soon as possible so that more patients can benefit.

Centrist political groups strive to survive and win government research projects

Following the official liquidation and dissolution of the Civic Party last year, the Democratic Party Central Committee also decided a few days ago to set up a team to follow up on the dissolution process. In addition to political space, the survival of centrists in Hong Kong's political arena has attracted much attention, and fiscal constraints are another test. As far as I know, one of the self-proclaimed centrist organizations, Democratic Ideas, is currently conducting a research project with government resources. It is conducting in-depth interviews with stakeholders such as industry professionals, scholars and experts on the changes in press freedom in Hong Kong in recent years. These funded projects can alleviate financial pressure.

Cross-border circulation in the Bay Area is wider and easier. Data security legislation must be detailed and in place.

Data connectivity between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area has brought convenience to Hong Kong. Last year, the government signed the "Standard Contract for Cross-Border Flow of Personal Information in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Mainland and Hong Kong)", which simplified the procedures for cross-border data flow between Hong Kong and the nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area. The relevant measures have already had successful cases in the financial and medical sectors, and were expanded to all industries last month. Sectors such as education, culture and art, and new quality productivity are also expected to benefit. Some data experts pointed out that Hong Kong needs to pay attention to protecting "data property rights" and data classification and classification. They suggested referring to the strict laws and regulations of the Mainland, establishing a legal framework, and accelerating the formulation of a data security law. The digital economy is becoming a new subject of Hong Kong's development. Some lawyers suggested that the authorities promote mutual recognition of identities, promote high-quality cross-border development in all aspects, and help integrate into the overall national development. Data connectivity with the Greater Bay Area has brought convenience and benefits to Hong Kong in many aspects. Last year, Hong Kong and the Cyberspace Administration of China signed the "Memorandum of Cooperation on Promoting Cross-Border Data Flows in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," and subsequently signed the "Standard Contract for Cross-Border Flows of Personal Information in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Mainland and Hong Kong)." This contract simplifies compliance arrangements for cross-border flows of personal information between nine mainland cities and Hong Kong, removes quantitative restrictions on cross-border transfers of personal information, and simplifies personal information protection impact assessments. More sectors, including education, culture, and the arts, benefit.

After Immigration: Declining Income of Overseas Hong Kongers and Occupational Mismatch

In the past few years, many Hong Kong people have immigrated overseas. I believe that every reader has more or less familiar relatives and friends who have decided to leave their hometown. They leave for different reasons, but they also need to adapt to a strange environment. Even though we no longer live in the same city, those who remain here still care about the local lives of overseas Hong Kong residents. After the housing problem is gradually solved and the living environment becomes familiar, finding sources of income becomes an urgent issue. Many immigrants have heard that the job market in foreign countries is not as active as in Hong Kong. However, they may not be prepared for it. They may be willing to sacrifice how much hard work they have done in the past and work in a sub-optimal job just to "earn a living".
