<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\nBeijing, April 18 (China Review News Agency reporter Chen Siyuan) \u2013 The 7th Taiwan Compatriots Association Forum's Economic Sub-Forum was held in Beijing on the afternoon of April 17. Participants shared their views on the 15th Five-Year Plan and cross-strait economic integration, believing that the plan provides new opportunities for cross-strait economic integration and that both sides should work together to restructure the global value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address, Yang Yizhou, Vice President of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, pointed out that nearly 6 million Taiwan compatriots visited the mainland last year, reaching the highest level in recent years. He said that this year marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan, and the mainland will provide more opportunities, a better environment, and a broader stage for Taiwan compatriots and enterprises to settle down and develop, thereby enhancing the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and strengthening the Chinese nation's economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wang Shushen, deputy director of the Institute of Taiwan Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out that cross-strait integration and development currently faces two challenges. From Taiwan's internal perspective, the DPP's administration's implementation of the "new two-state theory" and its consistent refusal to acknowledge the "1992 Consensus," along with its "closed-door policy" towards the mainland, directly impacts normal cross-strait economic exchanges and cooperation, becoming the biggest obstacle to closer ties between compatriots on both sides. From an international perspective, the United States' conservative and unilateralist policies pose an external challenge to cross-strait economic integration and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that despite the challenges, there are historical opportunities and realistic conditions for deepening cross-strait integrated development: First, the mainland possesses advantages in its political system; second, the mainland holds the initiative in cross-strait relations; and third, Taiwanese society has expectations, and cross-strait integrated development is in the interests of Taiwanese compatriots. He emphasized that cross-strait economic cooperation is highly resilient. Despite the DPP's policy of decoupling and severing ties, cross-strait trade reached US$314.334 billion and personnel exchanges reached nearly 6 million person-times by 2025, demonstrating the strong vitality of integrated development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chen Fuyu, president of the Taiwan Xia Chao Association and president of the Cross-Strait Daily, pointed out that the "15th Five-Year Plan" outlines the construction of a modern industrial system, which highly aligns with Taiwan's industrial advantages in fields such as electronics and information technology, precision manufacturing, biomedicine, and modern services, opening up extremely broad space for cross-strait industrial integration. He said that only by deepening cross-strait economic and social integration, promoting and consolidating the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and ultimately achieving the complete reunification of the motherland, can the people of Taiwan truly bid farewell to the tragedy of history, jointly participate in the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and share the glory and dignity of being Chinese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pan Xuezhi, a council member of the Hong Kong International Chinese Business Association and assistant director of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Joint Research Institute at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, emphasized the decisive role of institutional foundations in the economy. He stated that Hong Kong has been able to maintain its status as an international financial center because of the fundamental institutional anchor of "one country, two systems." Similarly, for the development and integration across the Taiwan Strait, the "1992 Consensus" is the political foundation that ensures the cross-strait economic and trade giants do not deviate from their course. Without a foundation of mutual trust in economic and political systems, even the best industrial policies are merely castles in the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
